Virtual/Physical is Erin Clarke’s blog for reflecting on new media in documentary practice, as part of the requirements for Production III: Narrative and Interactive Forms (DM8106), a core course of Ryerson University’s Documentary Media MFA program. Specifically, course contents will be examined in relation to the Documentary Manifesto I wrote for a previous class, Documentary Studies II (DM8103), an assignment I rather enjoyed. I tend to be so mindful of contingencies that I often find it difficult to make declarative statements. So, it was quite refreshing to have permission to make a whole bunch of them and I was surprised at how quickly they rolled off my pen (yes, I still do a lot of writing by hand).

Hi Erin,
Aha – I found out who Rackle is!
I’m impressed that you have your Manifesto up already – it sounds great.
I like to write with a pen too, and read from paper. Love gorgeous, tactile paper and the flow of ink or lead on on it. Guess we’re dinosaurs of sorts. Long live the dinosaurs!

Thanks for taking the time to read my manifesto and comment.
Re: being dinosaurs – I seem to be rather a mix of the analog and the digital, the old and the new. For all that I love the Internet and know more about its workings than many, I still prefer to read on paper.
